Text 3 Jul Sun Airways, Yours Truly

Lately I’ve been watching a lot of videos on Yours Truly.  They’ve put out some sweet videos including the recently posted baths performance and one sweet Toro Y Moi studio session.  Now world’s are colliding as they have posted a video for one of my favorite recent acts Sun Airways.  Sun Airways makes great post-merriweather sample heavy pop songs with indie songwriting sensibilities, which helps them avoid the directionless dreamy-ness many AC devotees fall prey to.  My favorite song is Waiting On You, for which Yours Truly have posted an awesome video by the Klip Collective. apparently this video was played on loop for their first ever live show in Philly. Deck. check it out:

I’ve doin a lot of driving (*being driven) this weekend. Which means that I’ve been able to listen to a lot of good music.  There was a lot of Ariel Pink.  And a lot of James Blake.  And randomly a good amount of A Sunny Day In Glasgow (go buy last year’s Ashes Grammar if you like things that are awesome).  But Onra’s High Hopes (feat. Reggie B) has been the number one jam for a couple days now.  So smooth.  So good.  So post-dilla.  Stream it up above and check out Onra’s new album Long Distance, out now on iTunes.

Text 13 Jun GOOD NEWS!

Junk Science, Iller Than Theirs, and Cool Calm Pete aren’t dead!

It is hard following lots of musicians you guys, especially when you end up focusing mostly on following on new/experimental stuff.  Things sneak up on you, like, “Hey, the lead singer from my most favorite band ever has recorded 8 brand new songs as Ugly Casanova…and this is old news now?”.

I started listening to hip hop as a freshmen in high-school, the artists that I first started listening to were Junk Science, Iller than Theirs, and Cool Calm Pete.  They were new on the scene then, all dropped pretty sick first albums, and then….not much happened after that, not a damn word about what they were up to, or maybe I just don’t know where the fuck to look anymore. I was bummed out for a while because I loved those artists, probably primarily because they sparked my love for hip hop, but also because they are pretty fly.  This morning, on a whim, I searched Junk Science, oh hey…they have A FUCKING ALBUM OUT, oh wait Cool Calm Pete you have A FUCKING ALBUM OUT (a concept-y album, described as a sound-track to a make believe movie) SINCE FUCKING WHEN? Oh and Iller than Theirs, you have an EP out too, typical.

The internet you guys, too big for me to handle.  That’s also what she said.  And yes, you can kill me for saying that.

I got chills when he started playing My World.  Check the recording of Jay Electronica’s set at Bonaroo over at NPR.  Jay Elect is going to blow up big.

Text 8 Jun This live Baths video is literally insane

In this video by Yours Truly via Pitchfork TV, Baths’ Will Wiesenfeld goes crazy on an MPC.  This is why I love Baths.

More new music via Adult Swim’s Singles Program. Tune in next week for new Washed Out.

Link 1 Jun Cool Kids - Tacklebox Mixtape»

Remember when the Cool Kids announced they were releasing a new album called  When Fish Ride Bicycles about a year ago? Remember when they released a mediocre mixtape called Gone Fishing and then never released an album? That was so funny. They totally pranked us.  But now they’ve got another free mixtape on their site so I guess it’s okay?  Not sure if this mixtape is mediocre again, but it is free.  Follow the link up top to listen/download.

Link 1 Jun ceo - Come With Me»

I’m little late on this, but hey, what are you gonna do. ceo is a new project from Tough Alliance’s Eric Berglund meaning it’s fun, poppy, and perfect for summer.

As said on their website “ceo is the photosynthesis and an aria, it is silence and virginity lost in a gang bang. … ceo is the ashanti and ceo is seinfeld. it is eucalyptus, neon and a smile…”

Uhhhh… right. Follow that link up top to download the single and watch the music video (via Gorilla vs Bear)
